And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." Joshua 24:15

Christmas

Let’s take a few minutes to look at this holiday we know as Christmas.

What could possibly be wrong with such a lovely time of the year? As Christians we may even consider that it is the one time of year that Jesus is lifted up in secular society and we tread with bated breath hoping the world will not wake up to this and kick him out like they did with school prayer.

We look around us and notice that God is not welcome anywhere in secular society but by some miracle (perhaps a Christmas Miracle!) we sneaked Christmas right past them all. Therefore it isn’t shocking to find Christians defending it or getting upset when a Christmas tree is removed from a government building or when a wintry nativity scene is taken down from a town square.

In reality however, we haven’t sneaked anything past anybody except ourselves. Christians are so deceived on this issue that it isn’t even funny. Many will not even hear an argument against it because they do not love the truth. They prefer a lie. They prefer tradition.

I have yet to meet a Christian who has a true understanding of why we celebrate Jesus’ birthday on December 25th. I have met many that can tell you it is pagan but they really don’t know why. They will point to Jeremiah 10 but even then they will only reject the Christmas Tree and not the day itself because they still think they are honoring Christ by setting aside a day to celebrate his birth.

Now I know 95% of those reading this will reject it. Some might get mad at me others will just shake their head and say, "boy he takes this stuff way too far. After all, everyone loves Christmas, it is a wonderful time and it is so much fun. We can not change the fact it is based entirely on sun worship. Besides we don’t see it that way anyway. We love Jesus and he understands."

Then perhaps your wife would understand if you went out with another woman? Would she understand? Or would you understand if she did that to you? Of course not! Then why do we tell lies and say Jesus understands when we go out with other gods. He understands all right. He understands that we don’t really love him.

The picture below is a composite of three sunrise pictures that were taken over the course of 6 months. The point to the right is near Dec 25th (which is when the sun always begins to show signs of moving back toward warmer days). It’s always right after the "winter solstice" and it has always marked the "rebirth" of the sun god. This is the real reason they try to say that Jesus was born on this day, because it is the sun god’s birthday!

This special day of December 25th is the "birthday" of many sun gods: Helios (Greek), Sol Invictus (Roman), Mithras (Persian), Tammuz (Babylonian) and Amun-Ra (Egypt) and many others. It has been the "reason for the season" throughout history from ancient Egypt, Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome to present day America.

Unfortunately as modern day Christians we look on these rituals and pagan gods as perhaps a little silly and definitely not worth any serious consideration but we underestimate paganism.

It is they who think we are silly.

After all, we are worshipping their gods without even realizing what we are doing. We ignorantly pass their traditions to our children, all while believing that we are serving Christ.

What has occurred over time is that Jesus, rather than being honored during this time, has simply been added to the long list of false sun gods that have sprung up over the years. Understand that it doesn’t really matter what the name is as long as the honor goes to the sun god. In effect, we are worshiping the sun and calling it Jesus.

This is why the world has seemed to "accept" Christmas, and all the while we thought they were giving honor to Jesus when they were in fact mocking him as just another manifestation of their glorious sun god. Their list goes like this Amun-Ra, Tammuz, Mithras, Helios, Sol, Jesus …etc, etc.

Do you really believe the world would set aside a day for the true Jesus? Not a chance! Pagans are laughing at us for not understanding this, and it is a main reason why Christians today are considered such backslidden jokes.

Hosea 4:6 says:
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children."

As far as those in paganism are concerned we just have a different name for our sun god. We call him Jesus. That really doesn’t bother them. They identify their gods not so much by name but by how important dates are celebrated, such as a birth on December 25th and a renewal (Easter/ Ishtar) near the spring equinox when the earth "renews" herself all based, of course, on the sun.

In fact, have you ever wondered why we worship on Sunday, the first day, when the clear teaching of the Bible says to honor the seventh day? It is because long before any of us were born the world set aside a day to worship the sun. They named it "Sunday" in honor of their sun god and today we ignorantly follow along and absolutely refuse to repent. We say "No, we are under grace, the law does not exist for us! Let grace abound while we worship the sun and call it Jesus".

This is a hard truth and few want to hear it, but there is little difference in us and full-blown sun worshippers.
